The Status of Kennett Classic

I have been in a touch with a lot of people who are curious as to the future of Kennett Classic.

The 5-year anniversary is cancelled.

The lease expired in May and I chose not to renew for another 5 years. We need a better space. With a ton of help we moved as much as we could into temperature-controlled storage and I took the summer off from the non-profit side of things to focus solely on re-curating and organizing the collection. We are in pause mode.

As far as a new location goes, the intention is to build a hacker space / work space / activity center.

As far as the collection goes bags and boxes needed to be replaced, items cleaned, spaces cleaned and dusted, etc. A lot of progress was made on the Digital PDP 8 since we closed the “shop”, but since then mostly I have been curating papers, software, objects and small stuff. A lot of cleaning and sorting was necessary. I have been building shelves to hold heavy items more efficiently. This is all part of a long-term plan to keep the machines servicable for as long as possible, and to make docs and software accessible.

Me, Joe, Erik and Gregg, and Bart have begun to talk about the future of the non profit and to start planning the next event. It will be exiciting and rejuvinating when we re-launch Kennett Classic 2.0, but between now and then I promise to be more communicative.

We should have a swap meet some time soon, that will be the next big thing. Feel free to share your thoughts.
